The main beach in Sorrento is situated in Marina Piccola and while there are others near the ruins of the Roman Villa Pollio Felix and at Marinella. The beaches in this area tend to be pebbly or via wooden or stone bathing platforms at the foot of the cliffs. There are private beaches where you must pay a fee to hire a sunbed and there are public ones which are free.

On some of the beaches there are water sport facilities such as sailing and diving and in Marine Piccola there is boat hire and boat excursions.

Sorrento is full of traditional Italian restaurants but also very touristy choices appealing to the homesick tourists. In the centre there are affordable tourist menus but if traditional cuisine is what you’re after, head to the side streets just of the centre and you’ll find an array of restaurants offering typical dishes such as Gnocchi (Potato dumplings), Cannelloni (pasta tubes with cheese and herb fillings) and Nocillo (a dark liquer made from Walnuts).
